A while ago Portugal has been cited as proof that an intra-European distribution scheme for asylum-seekers cannot work in practice. While the government offered a significantly higher number of relocation places than most other countries (despite being small and not so wealthy) ...many asylum-seekers left Portugal after a while for other countries like Germany. Now, it seems that the Portuguese Government still sticks to its pan-European and humanitarian commitment and is ready to learn the lessons and improve its integration policies. While some refugees moved on to other countries to reunite with family members (what a surprise) others left because the administration was not prepared (paperwork, integration classes). I really appreciate the Portuguese approach. They are not giving up and are ready to learn. This is a great example and should be made more widely known in those times where narrow minded politicians rule in many countries.
